Build Your Dream Pool
Custom Pool Construction in Houston, TX
Cabana Pools Aquatech has been building custom gunite pools across the Houston metro area since 1976. Three generations of our family have designed and constructed pools in River Oaks, Memorial, Bellaire, Spring Branch, the Energy Corridor, and throughout greater Houston.
We build every pool to handle Houston’s specific challenges: expansive clay soil, heavy seasonal rain, intense UV exposure, and the unique permitting requirements that vary between Houston’s independent municipalities.
Process
Our Pool Construction Process In Houston, TX
Design Consultation and Site Assessment
Every project starts with an on-site visit where we assess the lot dimensions, soil conditions, drainage patterns, existing utilities, and any setback restrictions. We discuss the homeowner's goals, usage needs, and budget. For Houston properties, we also check for HOA requirements, easement restrictions, and the specific permitting jurisdiction.
Permitting and Pre-Construction
We submit all permit applications, attend any required pre-development meetings (Bunker Hill Village), document tree inventories where required, and ensure all compliance items are addressed before excavation begins.
Excavation and Steel
Excavation accounts for Houston's clay soil conditions. The pool shell is reinforced with steel rebar engineered for the specific soil movement expected at the property location. Plumbing is installed and inspected before the gunite shell is formed.
Gunite, Tile, Coping, and Finish
The gunite shell is applied, followed by waterline tile, coping stone, and the interior finish. We offer standard plaster, quartz aggregate, and pebble finishes. For Houston's intense UV exposure and chemical demands, we recommend pebble or quartz finishes because they last significantly longer than standard plaster in this climate.
Equipment Installation
We install all filtration, pumps, heaters, lighting, and automation systems. Our preferred filtration is a sand filter tank upgraded with volcanic ash media, filtering down to 2 to 5 microns with no cartridge cleaning, no DE powder, and permanent media. For heating, we recommend 400,000 BTU gas heaters because the larger unit heats faster, runs more efficiently, and costs less to operate.
Decking, Landscaping, and Final Inspection
Deck installation, any associated landscaping, and final cleanup are completed. We coordinate the final inspection with the relevant building authority and ensure all compliance items pass before the pool is turned over to the homeowner.

Service Areas
Houston Neighborhoods We Build In
Houston neighborhoods are incredibly diverse, and every area brings different styles, property sizes, and homeowner preferences
Homeowners in River Oaks frequently seek upscale outdoor spaces featuring luxury finishes, integrated spas, and elegant design details that complement high-end homes.
Families in growing communities like Katy and Cypress often prioritize entertainment spaces that create room for gatherings while maintaining functionality for everyday use.
In neighborhoods like Memorial and Bellaire, many homeowners look for designs that blend seamlessly with existing landscaping and architectural styles.
Meanwhile, homeowners in Sugar Land, The Heights, and Pearland often seek custom outdoor spaces that maximize both aesthetics and practical use.
Because every property differs, we approach every project individually. Rather than relying on standard templates, we create pools that fit naturally within the property itself.

FAQs
Questions About Our Pool Construction Services In Houston, TX
How much does it cost to build a pool in Houston?
Custom gunite pool construction in Houston ranges from $60,000 to $150,000 or more depending on pool size, design complexity, finish materials, features, and site conditions. The Houston market average is approximately $75,000. We provide detailed, itemized quotes after the design consultation so you know exactly what every component costs.
How long does pool construction take in Houston?
A typical custom gunite pool takes 8 to 12 weeks from excavation to completion. Factors that can extend the timeline include weather delays (Houston’s rain), complex site conditions, permit processing times in certain jurisdictions, and the scope of decking and landscaping work. We provide a realistic timeline at the start of every project.
Do I need a permit to build a pool in Houston?
Yes. Every pool construction project in the Houston area requires building permits. The specific requirements and permitting authority depend on your property’s location: City of Houston, City of Bellaire, Bunker Hill Village, and other independent municipalities each have their own process. We handle all permitting for every project.
What type of pool finish do you recommend for Houston?
For Houston’s climate, we recommend pebble or quartz aggregate finishes over standard plaster. The intense UV exposure, high chemical demand, and year-round pool usage in Houston cause standard plaster to deteriorate faster than in milder climates. Pebble finishes last 15 to 20+ years compared to 7 to 10 years for standard plaster.
What about pool heating?
We recommend 400,000 BTU gas heaters for Houston residential pools. A larger heater reaches target temperature faster and runs shorter cycles, which actually costs less to operate than an undersized unit that runs constantly. Houston’s mild winters mean the heater is used primarily for extending the swimming season into November through March, not for extreme cold conditions.
